Harmonics means sine-waveform that it has the frequency ingredient of the integral multiple of the sine-waveform (basic frequency : 50Hz or 60Hz) of a commercial power supply.
The source of distortion waveform is rectifier and flat/smooth circuit of electrical equipment's input side.
Harmonics caused by inverter affects power source or others equipment (Static Capacitor, reactor etc.) connected to same power source.
